Babu Owino Acquitted in DJ Evolve Shooting Case

Babu Owino, a member of parliament for Embakasi East, was absolved in the DJ Evolve shooting case involving Felix Orinda, also known as DJ Evolve.

The senior principal magistrate of Milimani, Bernard Ochoi, ruled that the prosecution failed to establish the allegations.

He had been accused of firearm misuse and disorderly conduct.
“It is correct. “He has been cleared of all charges,” his attorney Duncan Okatch told PoliticalPulseChat.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino with lawyers Dancan Okatchi and Njiru Ndegwa at the Milimani law courts on August 29, 2023.

DJ Evolve testified under oath that he did not see the parliamentarian at the time he was wounded, providing a break for Babu Owino.

Evolve admitted to the court that he was wounded in January 2020, but he never saw the shooter or the weapon used.

“I was wounded by a bullet, but I do not know which rifle fired it. I’was just transported to the hospital,” he told the court, asserting that his testimony was given voluntarily.

“I discovered that Babu Owino was supporting me, and as a friend, I anticipated that my friends would look out for me.”

Even though DJ Evolve claims he does not know who shot him, Babu Owino revealed in June 2023 that he had spent Ksh53 million on DJ Evolve’s care since the gunshot in 2020.

In addition, the parliamentarian disclosed that he was spending KS70,000 per month on the DJ’s expenditures and food.

Since they were friends, DJ Evolve told the court that he did not see anything wrong with Babu Owino paying his expenses.

Moments before he was shot, he was speaking with Babu at a prominent club in Kilimani, Nairobi, where he worked as a disc jockey, he said.
