60% of Rift Valley Discontent With 2023 Compared to 2022- TIFA Report

On Friday, December 29, TIFA, a fully-fledged market research firm based in Africa, unveiled the findings of an extensive evaluation aimed at measuring Kenyan citizens’ overall views on the year 2023.

The findings from the assessment indicated that 60% of people living in the Rift Valley area of Kenya believed that 2023 was more unfavorable when compared to 2022.

The report specifically focused on those who felt that the year had deteriorated, and it identified Nyanza and Nairobi regions as having the highest levels of dissatisfaction.

The Nyanza region held the top spot with a 76 percent lead, while Nairobi closely followed with 74 percent.

Typically, 67% of Kenyans have expressed discontent with how 2023 unfolded when compared to the experiences of 2022.

The report highlighted that there was considerable dissatisfaction in the Eastern area, registering at 69 percent.

The Western and Coastal areas exhibited a 67 percent rate, while the Central region secured the sixth position with a 63 percent rate.

The report also states that 87 percent of Kenyan citizens have reported a rise in the cost of living in 2023, mainly due to increases in prices for vital items like fuel and household goods.

The urban areas have a higher prevalence, standing at 90%, of the perception regarding the increase in the cost of living, as opposed to 86% in rural areas.

Residents of Nairobi specifically expressed dissatisfaction with the difficulties faced in 2023, emphasizing the necessity for policymakers and pertinent parties to tackle the issue.

TIFA has urged economists and the government to devise and enforce strategies aimed at easing the financial strain on the population.
