38 MCAs Unanimously Approve Motion to Impeach DG Oduol, One Voice of Dissent
Monday, the Siaya County Assembly approved a motion to impeach Deputy Governor William Oduol.
38 of the 42 Siaya MCA members supported the motion. Only one (1) MCA voted against the motion. The MCAs cast their votes via secret ballot.
George Okode, the speaker, stated that the other three MCAs were absent with regret.
Nonetheless, the assembly voted to form a special committee to investigate the planned removal of Oduol from office.
Okode directed the committee to allow Oduol to be heard and to solicit public opinion.
The presenter instructed the committee to report its findings by June 8, 2023.
The committee will consist of one-third of the Assembly’s members.
Francis Otiato (East Yimbo), Oliver Arika (North Sakwa), Andrew Omwende (Sigomre), Fredrick Omoro (East Ugenya), Benard Adala (North Ugenya), Cynthia Alinyi (Nominated), and Seth Baraka (East Gem) are the organization’s members.
Sylas Madingu (Central Gem), Eunice Achieng (South Sakwa), John Apodo (Sidindi), Dorothy Oinga (Nominated), Justus Oguta (West Uyoma), Julie Okello (Nominated), and Michael Otieno (South Uyoma) are the others.

“The special committee shall investigate and report on all the grounds upon which the proposed Motion has been relied upon… within ten (10) days of its appointment, on whether or not it finds the particulars of the allegations against the deputy governor to have been substantiated,” majority leader Michael Otieno read in a statement.
According to East Asembo MCA Gordon Onguru, Oduol should be impeached for interfering with the procurement process, abuse of office and gross misconduct, misuse of public resources, bullying of county executive staff, and providing false information to the public.
Before the filing of the impeachment motion, Oduol had accused the county executive of corruption and mismanagement.
On April 14, 2022, he submitted his written evidence to the assembly.
The Assembly General Committee on Oversight determined that Oduol had not provided evidence to support his allegations.
On May 22, 2022, the Assembly adopted the General Oversight Committee report.
Soon after, Onguru filed a notice of motion to impeach the deputy governor to remove him from office.
