President William Ruto has dispatched 3,000 police officers to secure Baringo County and oversee the rebuilding of 44 schools.

Thursday in Kabartonjo, Baringo County, Ruto also pledged to deploy 2,000 additional police officers to enhance the region’s security.

Cattle rustling, according to the head of state, had afflicted the region for a long time and was one of the many problems he wished to eradicate.

“We have agreed that all closed schools between West Pokot and Turkana will be reconstructed. I have ordered that they be reconstructed as boarding institutions so that every child may attend school. There are at least 44 institutions in the region, the President stated during the issuance of title deeds.

“I have deployed 3,000 police officers here, and I will add 2,000 more to ensure that thieves do not infiltrate.”

As part of his reforms, Ruto promised that the government would cover all costs associated with the institution’s reconstruction.

The funding will cover multiple facets, including the provision of meals, to ensure that students receive the necessary assistance to remain in education.

“I will also initiate a program to ensure that food is available in the schools where the children will be staying. This is a government initiative. “Every child who has struggled will attend school, and no one will prevent them from doing so,” he added.

Since Ruto assumed leadership, insecure North Rift regions have experienced relative peace in recent months. The regions include the provinces of Baringo, West Pokot, and Turkana.

Aden Duale, the Defence Cabinet Secretary, stated at the beginning of August that the Head of State deliberately thwarted the criminals that had terrorized the region for decades.

Ruto deployed the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) to the North Rift after receiving intelligence upon assuming office.

The operation was conducted in two phases, with the first phase occurring between 13 February and 13 March and involving the engagement of outlaws while mapping the terrain for a subsequent phase. With the introduction of advanced artillery in March, the operation against the bandits was stepped up a grade.

Restoring the Contentious Arror Dam

In addition, the Head of State affirmed that plans were in full swing to restart the construction of Arror Dam and 25 other projects that had stalled or been abandoned.

“Water is extremely vital. On Tuesday, the Cabinet will sanction an additional 25 dams. We must ensure there is sufficient water,” pledged the Head of State.

“We have also resolved issues that arose during the Arror Dam’s construction. It will serve Kerio Valley, and we will initiate construction before December.”

The dam’s construction was halted after former President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered its closure in response to allegations of embezzlement and misappropriation of funds, which date back to 1986.
