3 fishermen rescued, 1 found dead 27 days after going missing
On Wednesday, December 27, 2023, the Kenya Coast Guard Service (KCGS) successfully saved fishermen who had disappeared when their boat was carried off by powerful winds and currents.
In a media statement, only referred to as Baraka, Brian, Fahadhi, and Baya, set out on a deep-sea fishing trip on November 30, 2023, with plans to come back to Ngomeni, Malindi in Kilifi County by December 2, 2023.
Nevertheless, following their absence, search and rescue teams endeavored to find them for a week until they pinpointed their whereabouts.
Three fishermen were discovered alive, but unfortunately, one of them had passed away, and KCSG Director-General Bruno Shiosho suspects that the cause of death was drowning.

“In a decisive response, KCGS deployed its vessel to recover the three surviving Kenyans and reunite them with their families and friends. The vessel completed the recovery mission today after rendezvousing with the foreign fishing vessel from the Port of Mombasa. The vessel is enroute back to Mombasa with an expected arrival time of Thursday, December 28, 2023,” KCGS stated.
Adding;
“The missing fishermen endured 27 days of uncertainty which KCGS acknowledges. The Search and Rescue(SAR) operations were in collaboration with Kenya Defence Forces, Kenya Navy, National Police Service, Kilifi County and local Beach Management Units.”
