28 NGOs Reject Perceived Ruto-Raila Handshake Deal

NGOs Rally Against President Ruto’s Alliance with Raila Odinga, Demand Youth-Focused Reforms and Accountability for Police Brutality

A coalition of 28 Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), led by the Communist Party, has voiced strong opposition to President William Rutoโ€™s perceived alliance with Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

They argue that the critical challenges currently facing Kenyans cannot be effectively addressed through mere political collaborations and negotiations.

In a recent press briefing, these organizations collectively agreed to join upcoming anti-government protests.

Their primary aim is to pressure President Ruto into addressing and meeting the demands put forth by the Kenyan youth, who have been increasingly vocal about their grievances.

Booker Amole, the Secretary General of the Communist Party, firmly stated that they would not accept the broad-based government model proposed by President Ruto.

Amole criticized both Raila Odinga and President Ruto for their political maneuvers, suggesting that their actions only serve to maintain the status quo rather than resolve the underlying issues.

โ€œWe have seen how their interests seem to be geared towards sustaining the current state of affairs. Both Raila and Ruto are part of the problem, and we will not endorse a broad-based government,โ€ Amole declared.

In addition to these concerns, Hapi Olal, a representative from the Social Justice Centre, raised serious questions about the governmentโ€™s inaction against rogue police officers.

Olal criticized the authorities for their failure to hold accountable those officers who have used excessive force against peaceful protesters.

โ€œThere has not been a single police officer held responsible for their actions, despite numerous instances of protesters being shot and journalists being assaulted,โ€ Olal noted.

He expressed frustration over the apparent lack of accountability and the ongoing violence against individuals exercising their right to protest.

The collective stance of these NGOs highlights a significant discontent with the current political leadership and their approach to addressing the nationโ€™s issues.

The upcoming protests are expected to further amplify these demands and exert additional pressure on the government to take meaningful action.
