10 Charged Over Kisumu Anti-Gov’t Protests, Including Nominated MCA

A Nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in Kisumu is one of the 10 suspects that were charged on Wednesday after they were arrested on Tuesday during the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya anti-government protests in the lakeside city of Kisumu.

The arrests took place on Tuesday while the suspects were participating in the protests.

MCA Kennedy Ajwang, who also serves as the coordinator for Nyanza Azimio, along with the other accused persons, has denied the two charges that were read out to them.

The ten individuals were taken into custody and brought before Chief Magistrate Dickson Onyango, where they were charged with obstructing traffic and planning to cause a felony.

Advocate Aggrey Mwamu, who was representing the accused individuals, requested that the court release his clients on cash bail.

On the other hand, the Chief Magistrate did not agree. And instead decided to release each of them on a bond of Ksh 50,000 with a similar surety.

Before the hearing that is scheduled for June 20, 2023. The case will be brought up for discussion on May 17, 2023.
