You Would Be A Fool To Come In Between Raila And I – Moses Kuria

According to Public Service Cabinet Secretary (CS) Moses Kuria, his rapport with Azimio leader Raila Odinga is robust to the extent that no one can sever them apart.

Kuria stated on Wednesday, October 8th, during an appearance on Citizen TV’s JKLive Show, that his differences with Raila are purely political, as the two have a positive relationship outside of politics.

“I do not know how on earth someone could come between me and Raila Odinga. If you try to come between me and Raila Odinga, you will be a fool, because he is my friend,” said Kuria.

Kuria stated that his public disagreements with Raila in July were due to the economically destabilizing anti-government demonstrations.

Kuria vehemently opposed the protests led by Azimio la Umoja, characterizing them as a significant encroachment upon Kenya’s economy—a sector that was within his purview at the time.

“We were in the middle of our politics, as you say or maandamano. I only said what I said about those people who were demonstrating,” Kuria said.

Moses Kuria had previously boasted of a three-decade-long, close relationship with the Odinga family, which dated back to 1994, when Jaramogi Oginga Odinga offered him support when he faced the prospect of expulsion from his university.

The Public Service CS further commented on his nonattendance at a trade meeting that took place at State House in July. During that time, US Trade Representative Ambassador Katherine Tai was in the nation to deliberate on a trade agreement between the United States and Kenya.

Then, it was claimed that the United States was planning to sanction Kuria for his public behavior.

However, Kuria asserts that the advisory from the American embassy was not about him as an individual, but rather his attitude toward the demonstrations.

Ambassador Tai was accused of instigating the misunderstanding.

“The US Representative has been a great friend of mine right from day one. When she came here, we were in the middle of our politics and maandamano and somebody did not like what I said about those people who were demonstrating and the American embassy gave that advisory that they don’t want to deal with me,” Kuria said.
