Women dominate as UDA makes changes in Nairobi assembly

The party commanded by President William Ruto has changed its leadership at the Nairobi County Assembly.

Monday, UDA secretary general Cleophas Malala announced the alterations.

“Under and by provisions of standing orders no 21 of the Nairobi County Assembly, the party appoints South B MCA Waithera Chege as Minority leader replacing Waithaka MCA Antony Kiragu,” reads the letter.

Deonysius Mwangi (Githurai MCA) will substitute for Waithera.

One Umoja MCA Mark Mugambi has been succeeded as Minority whip by Nominated MCA Joyce Muthoni.

Samora Mwaura, the Clay MCA, will appoint Muthoni as her delegate.

Malala wrote in a letter that UDA MCAs had earlier conducted a meeting where the topic of removing the former leadership was discussed.

“In the said meeting it was resolved that the minority leader and the minority whip be removed for reasons contained in the referred minutes. We enclose herewith copies of the said minutes and the signed attendance record of the honorable members,” reads the letter.

The letter was sent to the Speaker’s office and transmitted to the minority leadership.

On Thursday of last week, a portion of legislators demanded that the party’s senior leadership replace their assembly leaders.

At least 35 MCAs from the party led by Ruto have signed a petition calling for the removal of MCA Kiragu and MCA Mugambi from their leadership positions.

According to UDA lawmakers, the two had neglected to provide party members with direction and leadership on crucial legislative matters.

The MCAs, led by Clement Kamaru of Kahawa West, stated that the time had come for the transition.

“We have been patient with both the Leader of Minority and Minority Chief Whip for far too long, but now we must let them go for the benefit of our party and members. Enough is enough,” they said.

They charged both leaders with prioritizing their own interests over those of the members.

The UDA MCAs also claimed that the two leaders have undermined and marginalized women, particularly those nominated for leadership positions.

Appointed MCA When distributing opportunities to their colleagues and residents of Nairobi, according to Joyce Kamau, the two leaders were also egotistical.

Therefore, they demanded that the UDA’s party leadership install new leaders in the assembly who would genuinely represent the people’s interests.

During Tuesday’s plenary session, it is anticipated that Speaker Ken Ng’ondi will communicate the modifications made by the ruling party.
