Why You Should Be Wary of Alcohol You Consume Around Juja: Police Seize 480 Litres of Ethanol

On Thursday, November 7, 2024, police in Juja, Kiambu County, discovered and seized hundreds of liters of illegal industrial ethanol and other banned substances.

During the operation, authorities confiscated 480 liters of industrial ethanol along with multiple cartons containing various second-generation alcoholic beverages.

Kiambu County Police Commander, Michael Muchiri, emphasized that this operation was a significant step forward in combatting counterfeit products that present serious health risks.

“We have achieved a major success in addressing the issue of second-generation alcohol. Today, we recovered 480 liters of ethanol from a house in Juja, along with 163 cartons of various second-generation alcohol brands,” the police commander remarked.

The second-generation alcohol was being produced and stored in a three-bedroom house located in Theta village, Juja.

Inside the residence, the illicit alcohol was found being distilled, packaged, and reportedly sold to nearby bars.

Muchiri added that the police also discovered a vehicle loaded with empty bottles, highlighting that the alcohol was being made in substandard conditions, with no proper distilling practices in place.

“These products are unhygienic, improperly made, and pose a severe health threat,” the police commander stressed.

Authorities also uncovered a roll of Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) tax stickers, which they suspect were being used by the alleged manufacturer to evade taxes and mislead consumers.

Muchiri was quick to express his gratitude to the local community for their vital role in assisting the police during the operation.

“We must sincerely thank the community for their involvement. Without their cooperation in these operations, there is very little we can accomplish. Some community members worked closely with us, providing crucial assistance,” he said.

He also acknowledged the public’s help, noting that their tip-offs were key to the success of the raid.

“This house was quite isolated, and it appeared that no activities were taking place. However, members of the public still came forward with the vital information and support we needed,” the commander concluded.
