Why DP Gachagua’s Wife Cried Before Ruto- Kimani Ngunjiri

Former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri claimed on Monday that Second Lady Pastor Dorcas Rigathi broke down in a Karen meeting during the height of the 2022 elections because she was overcome with emotion.

In a video posted to his social media accounts, the former lawmaker claimed that Pastor Dorcas, the wife of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, shed tears as she begged President William Ruto to nominate her husband as his running mate.

According to Ngunjiri, five persons attended the meeting, which took place at the official residence of the DP. In addition to Gachagua, his wife, the President, and the Member of Parliament for Kiharu, Ndindi Nyoro, were present.

The quartet reportedly visited Ruto to persuade him to support Gachagua’s candidacy for the DP position, arguing that he was the best candidate given the political climate in Mt Kenya at the time.

Gachagua then faced intense competition from Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, who, according to Kenya Kwanza insiders, was the preferred candidate.

“I am old, but I cried defending the DP. Gachagua’s wife cried, and I can say that Ruto heeded our cries. We did not hate Interior CS Kithure Kindiki. However, to put the Mt Kenya vote in one basket, we had to settle on Gachagua,” he stated.

Ngunjiri’s revelation coincides with rumors of an impending rift between Ruto and Gachagua, even though Ruto has not responded to the allegations and Gachagua continues to refute them.

The former representative, who was once a close ally of Ruto, added that Gachagua was venturing into uncharted territory because he had marginalized both Ndindi Nyoro and himself (Ngunjiri).

He clarified that he had no objections to being demoted, despite supporting Gachagua for the DP position, but cautioned him against having disagreements with his supervisor.

Ruto appoints Ngunjiri as the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) for Lands. Ngunjiri advises Gachagua to resolve his differences with the supervisor amicably, stating that such conflict would be detrimental to the Mt Kenya region.

“I also want to remind the DP that the most important thing after one is elected as President is to unite all Kenyans. The President cannot go somewhere and talk about shares. He is a symbol of unity.

“He must work everywhere even if he won’t get elected in those areas, including Nyanza. I agree with the President when he says that all Kenyans are taxpayers. Ruto has tried, and the ambassadorial appointments show the face of Kenyans,” the former lawmaker stated, further calling on Mt Kenya leaders to unite.

In addition, he asserted that tensions were rising in Ruto’s Rift Valley domain because certain leaders had begun plotting to succeed him as the region’s leader. Ngunjiri cautioned that the succession plans were premature and counterproductive to Ruto’s development agenda.

However, the DP has vehemently denied rumors that he and the President had a falling out, insisting that the two were united and plotting how to retain power in 2027.

Sunday, October 8th, his wife, Pastor Dorcas, added that she constantly prayed for his success.

“He (Gachagua) is a good leader, and he is going to lead because we are on our knees. They said he would not get there; he was there by the grace of God. And by the power of God, he will remain there and we are going to pray for him. That is a message coming from his wife,” Pastor Dorcas revealed while speaking at PCEA Kabiruini in Nyeri.

“As a people, we are behind Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and there is no two ways about that. As a region, we want to say, in a very specific way, that we are solidly behind President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. We can see a joint ticket, and we are behind that, “Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga added.
