Why Azimio wants a forensic audit of 2022 presidential polls

The opposition has proposed that both Azimio and Kenya Kwanza join hands for a forensic audit of the 2022 presidential election.

In the coalition’s submissions to the National Dialogue Committee, Azimio says a forensic audit of last year’s presidential poll is necessary.

The opposition also proposes that the results of the audit be made public so that Kenyans can know the ‘truth’ about the elections.

“Azimio and KK to engage independent and or collective forensic/specialist audit firms/organizations,” Azimio says in its document to the NADCO.

Saying that the people of Kenya have a right to know the truth about the 2022 presidential election, Azimio said an evaluation that involves forensic and systems audits would eliminate any doubts.

Azimio says the audit will expose the role outsiders played in the system and who permitted them to act beyond the contractual duty, including refusing to open the servers.

The audit will also show if the servers found will be the right ones and other hardware and software purchased and used in last year’s polls.

According to Azimio, the audit will show if the IEBC and other state organs performed their duties by the Constitution.

The opposition also submitted to the committee what they said were the actual results of the presidential elections as allegedly contained in the servers of the electoral commission.

According to Azimio, they believe that the server had 8.1 million votes against President William Ruto’s 5.9 million votes.

These are the same figures that they claimed were leaked by a whistle-blower from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

The IEBC declared Ruto the winner of the presidential contest with 7.1 million votes against Raila’s 6.8 million votes.

Azimio has attached statistics showing what they have termed as the IEBC results breakdown from each county against those allegedly announced at the Bomas of Kenya.

In the submissions, Azimio says the results that were announced by retired IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati lacked statistical coherence.

Azimio claims that Raila won in 28 counties, 7 of the 8 regions, 803 wards, and 160 of the 290 constituencies.

The coalition told the committee that Raila won in 24,499 polling stations and received 25 percent in 35 counties.

“Each polling station has a maximum of 700 voters registered. It is therefore not statistically possible that a candidate who wins in more than 2,700 polling stations, 155 wards, 29 constituencies,8 counties, and 5 regions becomes the national loser,” Azimio said.

Raila has claimed that he was rigged out of the elections last year although he lost his case at the Supreme Court where Ruto’s victory was validated.
