Western MPs Shake Up 2027 Politics – Declare Oparanya ‘The Chosen One’ for Deputy President

Members of Parliament from Kenya’s Western region have officially backed Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary (CS) Wycliffe Oparanya for the Deputy President (DP) position in the 2027 general elections.

The leaders, calling their announcement the “Khwisero Declaration,” say Oparanya has proven he is the right person to represent the region at the national level.

Western Region Seeks Bigger Role in Leadership

Led by Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka and Ikolomani MP Benard Shinali, the MPs stated that it is time for the Western region to seek top political positions instead of settling for smaller roles.

“Leaders from Western must stop getting into leadership through the back door. Oparanya has gone through that route before, but now we must come together, use our numbers, and negotiate properly in 2027,” MP Aseka said.

Another MP encouraged Oparanya to take the lead, saying, “We want him at the decision-making table so that in 2027, he can become Kenya’s next Deputy President.”

    Oparanya’s Political Journey

Wycliffe Oparanya has been in politics for more than 20 years. His career started in 2002 when he was elected as Butere MP, defeating Amukowa Anangwe. He served in Parliament for 10 years.

In 2008, former President Mwai Kibaki appointed him as Minister for Planning and Vision 2030. He held this position until 2012.

Oparanya later became Kakamega County’s first governor in 2013, serving two terms until 2022. He was also the Council of Governors (COG) chairperson, where he was recognized as one of Kenya’s top-performing governors.

    The Road to 2027

Oparanya was appointed as CS for Cooperatives after a political agreement between former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and President William Ruto.

Now, Western leaders want him to use his influence to represent the Mulembe community at the highest level of government. They argue that the region has the numbers to demand a stronger political role.

This endorsement marks the beginning of a major political strategy to boost Western Kenya’s presence in national leadership.
