We now recognize Ruto as president, Azimio’s Kalonzo Musyoka now says

The opposition now “recognizes” President William Ruto’s election and inauguration as Head of State, according to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, in light of his support for bipartisan negotiations to resolve the 2022 election crisis.

Mr. Musyoka, who co-chairs the National Dialogue Committee and heads the team of opposition leader Raila Odinga in the talks, praised President Ruto for his dedication to the talks.

Mr. Musyoka, who attended the burial of Wiper-nominated MCA Constance Mwandawiro in Voi, Taita Taveta County, on Saturday, September 2, stated that President Ruto has demonstrated maturity and statesmanship by supporting the ongoing bipartisan discussions despite opposition from his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

He stated that the President’s stance contrasted with that of his vice president, who has been accused of undermining the negotiations and instigating violence against Azimio supporters.

“We commend the president for standing firm and supporting the continuation of negotiations,” he said. He continued, “Because of his (Ruto’s) stance, we recognize him, and we will wait to see what happens the next time, because who knows? God’s intentions may be next for us.

Mr. Odinga led his troops in rejecting President Ruto’s election, but talk of alleged illegitimacy has recently died down, with troops now focusing on the Bomas talks, where the presidential side made a rare climbdown and agreed to discuss all of the opposition’s concerns, including an audit of the 2022 election and the reconstitution of the electoral commission.

Mr. Musyoka stated that no one, including Mr. Gachagua, would halt the negotiations now that the Senate has codified the National Dialogue Committee and its procedures. We have an issue with what some individuals are saying. The remarks made by President Ruto’s deputy (Gachagua) at a funeral in Ukambani have left locals pondering what kind of leader he is. However, everyone will be called to order,” he said.

Mr. Musyoka, who co-chairs the National Democratic Congress (NDC) with Kimani Ichungtwah of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, stated that significant progress had been made in addressing critical national issues.

He stated that the Azimio faction had acknowledged Mr. Ruto’s presidency and would abandon its uncompromising stance until the next general election. He urged citizens to submit memoranda to the committee on matters of national significance, including constitutional reforms, electoral justice, economic recovery, and national unity.

Taylor Taveta Senator Jones Mwaruma and other present leaders urged Kenyans to embrace a spirit of dialogue and tolerance and forsake politics of division and violence. He stated, however, that Azimio’s demonstrations had produced results.

The senator accused certain Azimio-elected leaders of abandoning coalition rallies and joining Kenya Kwanza.

. “If we claim to love our party leaders, we must be willing to support them when they rally us on an issue,” he said. The women’s representative, Lydia Haika, also urged residents to maintain calm as the committee continues negotiations.

“Kenyans are peace-loving individuals who desire progress and development. “I urge you all to maintain peace because, despite their political differences, when leaders meet, they laugh and reconcile,” she said.

The funeral of the deceased MCA was also attended by the Deputy Governor of Taita Taveta, Christine Kilalo, and the MPs Peter Shake (Mwatate), Abdi Chome (Voi), and Danson Mwashako (Wundanyi). A number of MCAs from the counties of Taita Taveta, Kitui, Makueni, and Machukos were also present.

Mrs. Mwandawiro passed away last Thursday while receiving treatment at a hospital in Mombasa. Despite her illness, Taita Taveta County Assembly Speaker Wisdom Mwamburi praised the late MCA as a diligent and devoted leader who was committed to her Assembly duties.
