We Are in Government as Official Opposition Figure- Kalonzo Explains
On Wednesday, March 27, Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka stated that a report from the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) had solidified his position within the government as the recognized opposition figure.
During a burial event in Kaiti Constituency, Makueni County, Kalonzo stated that before the NADCO discussions, there was a lack of clarity regarding the official leader of the government.
According to the NADCO report, President William Ruto was formally recognized by the opposition as the leader of the nation, leading to Kalonzo’s inclusion in the government as the opposition leader.
“The fact that William Ruto is now properly in place as President, I want to announce to you guys that we are properly in place as official opposition. Therefore we become the government,” he explained.
Kalonzo additionally stated that the opposition now acknowledges President Ruto following a prior demonstration of civil defiance.
“The effect of NADCO report was to make William Ruto enjoy the rest of his term,” he remarked.

The ex-vice president disclosed that before Kenya Kwanza and Azimio reached a negotiation agreement, Azimio Principals Raila Odinga and Martha Karua refrained from addressing Ruto as President.
Kalonzo stated that his objective within the opposition was to prevent Kenya Kwanza from securing a second term in the upcoming 2027 elections.
“Brace yourself for a battle royale as I try to make William Ruto a one-term President for the sake of this country,” he stated.
He elaborated that by 2027, he was prepared to push the boundaries of political ambition more than he had ever done previously.
Kalonzo made comparisons to the recently concluded elections in Senegal, suggesting that Kenya is ready for an opposition candidate to replace the ruling party.
The leader of the Wiper party clarified that he emerged as an alternative candidate because a majority of Kenyans were disillusioned with Ruto’s government, citing excessive taxation as a primary concern.
