Wavinya Ndeti Breaks Silence on UK Arrest Rumors, Sh679M Claim
Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has refuted claims of her arrest in the United Kingdom over possession of Sh679 million.
On Monday, September 9, Ndeti addressed the rumors, labeling them as ‘baseless and false’ and accusing those spreading the misinformation of defamation and irresponsible use of digital platforms.
“It is absurd and offensive to suggest that I would smuggle hundreds of millions of shillings to the UK and face detention. Those making such allegations show a lack of understanding about the stringent measures in place by UK Customs/Border Control and Financial Institutions. I assure the public that both my family and I are safe, and our standing, both locally and internationally, remains intact,” Ndeti clarified.
The Machakos governor stressed that such distractions would not deter her from her mission to improve the welfare of the people in the county.

“My administration has initiated nearly 1,000 projects since August 2022, and in the Financial Year 2023/2024, we managed to generate Sh1.7 billion in local revenue, a record amount since devolution began in Machakos,” Ndeti elaborated.
She also announced her intent to take legal measures against those responsible for spreading the false reports, challenging them to provide evidence when they face justice.
The governor further highlighted the danger posed by the harmful rumors to her and her family.
“This malicious information has created a harmful narrative about me and my family, endangering our safety. Those responsible should be aware that if anything happens to any of us, they will be held accountable,” Ndeti warned.
Her statement came after social media reports on Sunday, September 8, claimed she had been detained in the UK with the funds following the refusal of UK banks to accept the deposit.
