On August 8 and 9, 2024, a major police operation was conducted at the home of businessman Jimi Wanjigi on 44 Muthaiga Road, Nairobi.
A team of law enforcement officers, heavily armed and from multiple agencies, encircled the residence to find Wanjigi, who was reportedly not present during the search.
The operation commenced on the evening of August 8, when police in tactical gear arrived at the location.
Wanjigi took to social media to share videos of the police presence, questioning the reasons behind the raid.
Maina Wanjigi, Jimi’s son, voiced his concerns about the ongoing police actions targeting their family, suggesting that these raids are politically motivated, particularly when they criticize the government.

The family reports that police conducted three distinct searches: one on Thursday at 7:00 p.m., another at midnight, and a final search early Friday morning around 6:00 a.m., during which they forced entry into the premises.
The raid resulted in the severance of both power and internet connections to the house, leaving the family to cope with the operation in complete darkness.
Despite the thorough searches, the police were unsuccessful in finding Wanjigi.
Lawyer Willis Otieno stated that the police officers inspected every room in the house but only managed to seize iPhones belonging to the family, iPads, walkie-talkies used for communication within the house, and a fuel receipt.
“Surprisingly at 6:00 a.m., my clients were woken up by marauding men wearing balaclavas and carrying assault rifles,” he said.

Hidden strong room
The news desk has yet to confirm Wanjigi’s current location; however, previous reports indicate that the mansion, crafted by renowned U.S. luxury interior designer Perla Lichi, includes a secure safe house that is challenging for outsiders to access.
In 2017, police officers spent several days stationed at the residence but were unsuccessful in locating Wanjigi following his dispute with former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
After the 2017 police operation, Wanjigi reappeared at a media briefing held at his residence, surprising both Kenyans and law enforcement officials.
During a 2022 house tour with Eric Omondi, Wanjigi referenced the previous raid, noting how he concealed himself within the mansion while the police were unable to find him.
“This is where they tried and failed?” one of the people on the tour asked the businessman.
“They (police officers) got in but they didn’t find me, but I was right here,” Wanjigi quipped.
