Wandayi Urges Ruto to Show Respect: Twitter Invite to ‘Baba’ Deemed Disrespectful
Tweeting his regret at President William Ruto’s invitation to opposition leader Raila Odinga, minority leader Opiyo Wandayi expressed his displeasure with the invitation.
President Ruto tweeted on Tuesday that he is willing to meet with the opposition leader once he returns from Tanzania, where he will be attending a meeting on human capital.
The tweet stated, “My friend Raila Odinga, I am off to Tanzania for a human capital meeting to coordinate the expansion of employment opportunities on our continent.”
Wandayi responded to Ruto’s olive branch by stating that it was disrespectful for the president to invite the opposition leader via social media.
“Ruto must respect Baba, and inviting him via tweet is disrespectful,” Wandayi said on Ramogi radio Wednesday morning.

In addition, the Ugunja representative stated that the Azimio la Umoja coalition is willing to negotiate with the government.
Wandayi disclosed further that Azimio will offer condolences to the casualties of last week’s protests, following the end of the three-day anti-government demonstrations.
Additionally, he stated that they will establish a restitution fund for victims of police brutality, which will be used to compensate those who suffered property loss during the demonstrations.
“This week is dedicated to prayer; interdenominational prayers will be held in Nairobi, Kisumu, and other major cities,” he said.
On Saturday, all religious groups that observe the day as their worship day will participate.
He did state, however, that the protests will recommence on Wednesday of the following week.
