Wamuchomba: Why No Mt Kenya Leader Can Replace Uhuru As Kingpin Yet
Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba criticized Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for not actively safeguarding the interests of the Mt Kenya community. She emphasized that he has not proven his ability to assume the role of the community’s leader after former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In a Thursday interview on KTN News, Wamuchomba expressed her disappointment, stating that the key leadership within the Mt Kenya community had not succeeded in averting widespread dismissals of government officials from the politically significant region.
She observed that starting from September 2022, more than 100 senior leaders in the region have been dismissed in what appears to be a witch hunt, undermining the progress made by Uhuru in appointing them to key government roles.
Wamuchomba acknowledged Uhuru for his strategic approach, highlighting that certain individuals among the officials had progressed to high-ranking positions within both the government and the military.
“As we speak, instead of the people who we have sent to the Kenya Kwanza government absorbing more of our people, they are firing them. How can you tell us that you are our kingpin, an imaginary kingpin, yet our people are being fired?
“I am one of those people who believed in the leadership of the people that are there. I campaigned for them and fought for them,” she stated.

Wamuchomba acknowledged Uhuru for his strategic approach, highlighting that certain individuals among the officials had progressed to high-ranking positions within both the government and the military.
The vocal Member of Parliament from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), who has consistently opposed several government initiatives since President William Ruto’s inauguration, further stated that the prominent leaders in the area are primarily dedicated to undermining individuals who criticize the government.
“Uhuru became the kingpin the day he sacrificed himself, his family, and everything he had for us. The hullabaloo of who is the kingpin or queenpin is not political.
“You can never become a kingpin because of your politics. You can only become one through your dedicated service to them. Who is that person who can demonstrate to us that they have gone a kilometer for our community? I haven’t seen anybody.” she reiterated.
Additionally, she warned that individuals of unknown identity were exploiting the 2027 vice-presidential debate to create discord within the community typically considered one of the most significant voting blocs.
This came about as a reaction to the effort by some UDA MPs who were advocating for the substitution of Gachagua with Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as the running mate for Kenya Kwanza in 2027.
