Wamalwa Slams Raila Over ‘Rescue Ruto’ Comments- “It’s Untenable and Tantamount”

Eugene Wamalwa, leader of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), has criticized Azimio leader Raila Odinga for his claim that he saved the Kenya Kwanza government from a potential collapse.

Wamalwa contended that Raila’s comments were misleading, arguing that instead of rescuing Kenyans from the Ruto administration, he was merely bolstering the regime and boasting about it.

He questioned how the Azimio coalition could maintain its oversight role over a government it is purportedly aiding.

The former Defence CS deemed such an arrangement as untenable.

Wamalwa questioned X, “Is it really about rescuing Kenya from the Ruto Regime, or are we just propping up Ruto’s government and bragging about it? How can Azimio continue to oppose a government it is assisting?”

“It’s Untenable and tantamount to running with the hare and hunting with the hounds.”

On Monday, opposition leader Raila Odinga visited Toi market in Nairobi, where a fire had devastated traders’ property and resulted in at least four fatalities.

During his visit, Raila noted that President William Ruto had sought assistance after realizing that his Cabinet team was failing, which led to Gen Z protests.

“They had failed, dissolved the Cabinet, and came to us asking for help. They begged us to provide people who know how to work,” Raila remarked.

The former Prime Minister assured Toi residents that the experts they had provided for Ruto’s Cabinet would soon lead to noticeable improvements.

“We’ve provided experts, and you will soon see the change.”

In the recent Cabinet reconstitution, Ruto included five members from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

Among them were former deputy party leaders Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, appointed to the Mining and Cooperatives ministries.

National Assembly minority leader Opiyo Wandayi and party chairman John Mbadi, along with Beatrice Askul, a member of the ODM National Elections Coordinating Committee, were assigned to the Energy, National Treasury, and East African Community ministries, respectively.

Joho, Oparanya, Wandayi, and Mbadi have been vetted and are awaiting confirmation, while Askul is scheduled for vetting on Friday, August 9, 2024.
