Violent Robbery: CCTV Records Armed Attack on Supermarket Shoppers

Residents of the Marigat region of Baringo are living in constant fear after a rogue gang of armed men began robbing the community.

On Sunday, May 7th, thieves were captured on CCTV footage opening fire on shoppers inside the Marigat Supermarket and robbing them at dusk.

The footage showed the robbers firing indiscriminately as shoppers fled for safety.

The robbers also assaulted the cashier and quickly stole the day’s earnings from the supermarket.

After robbing the supermarket, the two-member gang fired warning shots into the air and slithered away into the night.

Residents of the area told the media that this was not an isolated incident. And that the thieves had terrorized the area for over a month.

One of the residents lamented, “We are on a self-imposed curfew where we must close our stores early out of fear for our lives.”

A mobile money shop employee who also spoke to the press. Stated that she had lost Ksh70,000 to thugs wreaking havoc in the neighborhood.

“They robbed me at gunpoint, and after I gave them all the money I had, they proceeded to destroy my roof by shooting in the air,” she said.

Kipruto Kimosop, a member of the Mochongoi County Assembly. Criticized the national government for failing to curb insecurity in the region.

“What kind of circumstance is this? The MCA complained, “We have an entire sub-county security committee, but attacks occur in more than five centers and nothing is done.”

Baringo Police Commander Julius Kiragu refuted the national government’s allegations of laxity.

After receiving information from the public, “We already have suspects on our radar, and it is only a matter of time before we make an arrest,” he assured the public.
