Veteran ODM Party Politician Dies, Just Two Months After Son’s Passing

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has announced the death of Mzee John Orwenjo, the party’s Alego Usonga branch chairman.

In a statement on Thursday, September 12, ODM disclosed that Mzee Orwenjo passed away on Wednesday night after a short illness.

The party noted that the politician was an active and loyal member who always spent time strengthening the opposition party.

“We mourn the passing on last night of our Alego Usonga Branch Chairman Mzee John Orwenjo Umidho after an illness. Mzee was a loyal & and active member of the party and spent most of his time strengthening the party. He was instrumental in bringing sanity, stability, and unity to the party in Alego and the larger Siaya County,” read part of the statement.

ODM maintained that it has lost a gem, adding that Mzee Orwenjo’s death came two months after the death of his son.

“As a party, we have lost a gem. His death comes barely two months after the death of his son Wakili Vincent Orwenjo. We pray for his family, friends, relatives, and the entire ODM fraternity in Siaya County for the loss,” ODM stated.

The death of Mzee Orwenjo comes a day after former Trade assistant minister and ex-Bomachoge Member of Parliament Simon Ogari passed away on September 10 following a long illness.

Ogari served in the 10th and 11th parliaments and was a member of the ODM party.

He served as an assistant minister for Trade in 2010 in the grand coalition government before serving as the Information & Communication assistant minister between 2012 and 2013.
