US President Biden Calls Ruto Ahead of Kenya Police Haiti Deployment
Following the United Nations’ approval of Kenya’s deployment of its police force to Haiti, US President Joe Biden called his Kenyan counterpart, William Ruto.
According to a White House statement, the phone conversation occurred on Tuesday evening, hours after the UN Security Council authorized the mission.
Biden congratulated Ruto on Kenya’s courageous decision to send 1,000 officers to Haiti to restore order to a country plagued by violence for years.
On the other hand, the President of the United States took the time to express his support for the 2024 scheduled mission led by Kenya.
“President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. spoke with President William Ruto of Kenya today to thank him for answering Haiti’s call to serve as the lead nation of the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission,” the White House documented.
In addition, they discussed the Africa Climate Summit that Ruto hosted in September.
“President Biden also congratulated President Ruto for hosting the recently concluded Africa Climate Summit and expressed appreciation for the U.S.-Kenya strategic partnership, which is founded on a pursuit of shared solutions to global challenges. Â
