“The Anti-Homosexuality Act increases the risk that LGBTQI+ individuals and those perceived to be LGBTQI+ could be prosecuted and sentenced to life in prison or death based on provisions in the law, and may be required to report to the police if they are suspected of committing or intending to commit the acts,” the statement read.
It has also warned supporters of the dignity and human rights of LGBTQI+ individuals that they could be prosecuted and sentenced to lengthy prison terms.
“Some regions have elevated risk.”

The updated advisory also indicates that the threat of terrorist attacks and violent crimes, such as armed robbery, home invasion, and sexual assault, poses a significant risk to those traveling to or residing in Uganda.
In most areas, local police may lack the resources necessary to effectively respond to serious crime.
In May, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni signed into law an anti-gay bill that imposes harsher penalties for ”aggravated homosexuality”.
The new law, one of the harshest anti-LGBTQ laws in the world. Criminalizes homosexuality and prescribes a 20-year prison sentence for those who promote homosexuality.
Following the enactment of the bill. Uganda now faces the possibility of sanctions on financial aid from donors. And LGBTQ activists are expected to mount a legal challenge.
