UoN: Kenya’s Top University in Global Rankings

The University of Nairobi is the only Kenyan institution to rank among the top 2,000 universities worldwide.
Monday’s release of the 2023 ranking edition by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) ranked UoN 1,425th on the list and as the top institution of higher education in Kenya.

CWUR added that UoN’s employability ranking was 1,610, which was based on the professional success of its alumni, including the number of top positions they have held at major companies relative to the university’s size (25%).

However, UoN’s ranking has declined since the CWUR 2022 edition, which placed it at the 1,404th spot.

South Africa also made the list with 12 universities, with the University of Cape Town ranking highest at number 267.

Egypt followed with 20 universities, the top-ranked institution being Cairo University at position 520.

The other three universities, Makerere University in Uganda and Mohammed V University in Morocco tied for position 950 and 953 respectively.

Tunis El Manar University, the only university from Tunisia to make the list, was ranked 976. While Nigeria’s University of Ibadan topped the list at 1,163, followed by three other universities.

With a rank of 1,920, Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences was located in last place in Tanzania.

Assessments of the quality of education (25 percent), alumni employment (25 percent), faculty quality (10 percent), and research performance (40 percent) were used to rank universities, rather than surveys and university data submissions.

The top three universities on the list were from the United States. Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Stanford University. Followed by the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford from the United Kingdom.
