Unidentified Body in Migori Mortuary for 7 Days: Tom Osinde’s Case

Fred Tom Mokaya Osinde’s badly decomposed body lay unidentified in the mortuary of the Migori Referral Hospital for a week while his family desperately searched for him.

Close relatives kept the media at bay as they searched for him, unaware that he had been murdered and his body dumped in the River Kuja, where it was discovered floating on June 22 in the Kanga region.

Residents of the area alerted the police in Rongo, according to the police. It was wearing a brown T-shirt and a black vest. The remaining body was naked.

“There were no apparent injuries.” However, we preserved the body well at the mortuary of the Migori Referral Hospital pending identification. We transmitted a signal regarding the body. It was only identified by a close relative of Mr. Osinde on Wednesday, according to Migori police chief Peter Kimani.

The recovery of the body follows a desperate search for Osinde in Rongai, Nakuru County, where he resides, and in Nyamira, his hometown.

On Thursday morning, Enock Osinde, Osinde’s brother, posted on Facebook: “Thank you, friends, for your outpouring of love, prayers, and support during my brother’s search. Unfortunately, we did not anticipate this outcome.

Tom was murdered, and his body was discovered in the county of Migori. Please continue to pray for us as we attempt to reach an agreement.” Yesterday, Osinde’s relatives transported his body to the mortuary at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital in preparation for an autopsy. The bereaved family members refused to speak with the media.

Ken Osinde, the late Chief of Staff in the office of then-Vice President William Ruto, was the brother of Osinde. From 2010 to 2014, Ken also served as Kenya’s ambassador to Germany.

After a brief illness, he passed away on December 10, 2021, in a hospital in Nairobi. On June 18, Osinde was traveling from his home in Nakuru to his rural home in Borabu when he disappeared.

Since the day he went missing, his mobile phone has been inoperable. Following Osinde’s disappearance and eventual body discovery, new details have emerged.

Police are investigating whether he was drugged before being thrown into his vehicle and driven from his home in Nakuru to Kisii, where he was murdered.

Wednesday, a team of detectives arrested two of Osinde’s farm workers at his home in Rongai. The two, Julius Mogoi and Mugo Gathii, expressed their shock at Osinde’s disappearance to journalists on Sunday.

The detectives, led by Ms. Donnata Otieno, interviewed workers on Osinde’s farm.

“We have also interrogated employees of the facility and arrested two of them to assist with the investigation.” Currently, they are being held at the Menengai Police Station. Ms. Otieno stated that, thus far, investigators are following crucial leads and making significant progress in their investigation.

Mr. Mogoi was seen driving Osinde’s car two days before it was discovered abandoned in Trans Mara West, it was discovered.

According to multiple interviews, Mogoi drove the vehicle to his home in Nyakeyo and parked it on his neighbor’s property. This was the first time in three years that the suspect had been seen at the residence, allegedly after fleeing the scene of another crime linked to him.

The Nation has determined that Mr. Mogoi is a suspect in a decades-old murder investigation. It is unclear how he obtained his freedom before leaving Kisii to work at Osinde’s Ngata residence.

Samson Osiro, Mogoi’s neighbor, remarked, “When I asked him whose car it was, he said it belonged to his boss.”

He added that the vehicle contained several items, including a generator and a power saw.

Neighbors reported that Mr. Mogoi had young men wash his car before taking them to a restaurant for tea.

“We did not clean the interior of the vehicle. “He said it had a great deal of luggage,” said one of the young people.

Saturday, Mr. Osinde’s family identified his vehicle at the Kilgoris Police Station in Narok County. According to Trans Mara West Sub County Police Commander Jamlek Ngaruiya, Osinde’s son positively identified the vehicle.

“On Thursday, June 22, 2023, the black Land Cruiser was discovered abandoned in Ilpashire along the Sikawa-Enoosaen road. “The missing person’s son identified the vehicle this morning (Saturday) and confirmed that it belongs to his father,” Mr. Ngaruiya said.
