Unexpected Twist: Azimio Cancels Central Park Meeting!

The Azimio la Umoja coalition has stated that its plan to congregate at Central Park in Nairobi on the culmination of day two of the anti-government protests was a ruse to fool police officials. This was confirmed by the coalition on the second day of the anti-government protests.

In an interview with GossipA2Z, Philip Etale, who serves as the Communications Director for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), stated that the organization devised a smart plan to keep the police officers guessing about their next move.

When Opiyo Wandayi was giving Azimio’s statement, the National Assembly Minority Leader urged their followers to show up at the Park and appealed to police officers to provide enough protection.

“We commit to continue remaining peaceful whether provoked or not,” Wandayi declared in their statement.

After he made the statement, the anti-riot police officers made plans to ambush the lawmakers from the opposing party before they entered the location. It was stated that another squad was sent out to set up a perimeter around the Park and the communities surrounding it.

Etale, in response to the most recent events, indicated that the leaders of the Azimio organization were aware that infiltrating Central Park would have been an arduous undertaking.

I mentioned in a tweet that I will be at Harambee Avenue at noon, but I did not provide any further information. Etale asserted that at 11:30 in the morning, law enforcement officials had already been sent to the area.

As a result of the success that the protests had on the first two days, the communications director urged their followers to get ready for the protests on Friday, July 21.

However, he did not specify whether or not the leaders of Azimio will come out in full gear after being absent from action on Wednesday and Thursday, July 20.

Kibera, Kamukunji, Kisumu, Jacaranda Grounds, and Embakasi were among the neighborhoods in which the level of security was increased after they were identified as potential strongholds for the opposition.

Aside from that, police helicopters were sent out to patrol the region to look for protesters who were suspected of hiding in the estates.

On Friday, July 21, Azimio’s third wave of demonstrations will continue, to increase the amount of pressure placed on President William to repeal the Finance Act 2023 and reduce the cost of living.

In addition, the opposition demands that the government refrain from re-establishing the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) until the conflict between the two opposing parties is resolved amicably.
