According to reports, the accidentย that took placeย on Maralal-Wamba Road happened when the driver tried to navigate across a river that had flooded.

The incident happened just a few hours before Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu pushed the school reopening date back to Monday, May 6.

A letter from the Ministry revealed that the decision was made after Machogu was informed that most schools were impacted by floods due to heavy rain for most of last week.

“In the face of the ongoing heavy rains, the Ministry of Education last week directed its field officers to submit data from all Basic Education Learning Institutions countrywide to assist the Government in assessing the readiness of the schools for the Second Term opening on Monday, April 29, 2024,” the statement from Machogu read in part.

“Reports received at the Ministry of Education corroborated with data from other relevant Government agencies, show that several schools in various regions of the country have been adversely affected by the rains.”

    Uhuru Donation

In 2021, then-President Uhuru Kenyatta donated a bus to AIC Moi Girls as part of a government initiative that providedย 10ย buses to different secondary schools and community organizationsย across the nation.

The additional beneficiaries during that period included the Catholic Women Association of Maralal Diocese, Marafiki Football Club from Nyeri County, Tumutumu School for the Deaf in Nyeri County, and Marifano High School in Tana River County.

Othersย were;ย Achengo Girls Secondary School (Kisumu County), Olorukuti Secondary School (Narok County), Rukanga Secondary School (Kirinyaga County), and Mnagei Secondary School (West Pokot).
