Uhuru PS in Court Over Corruption Charges Despite ODPP Withdrawing Case
Former Gender and Youth Principal Secretary Lilian Omollo is set to appear in court between May 28 and May 30 to face corruption-related charges.
Omollo, who served under former President Uhuru Kenyatta, is scheduled to appear in court nearly a year after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) sought to withdraw her cases.
The ex-PS is accused of involvement in the alleged embezzlement of Ksh468 million at the National Youth Service (NYS), which she oversaw.
“This case pertains to corruption and conspiracy to defraud charges against the former Permanent Secretary and NYS employees,” stated the ODPP on Monday, May 27, summarizing the case.
The trial involves the Kenyan government prosecuting the former PS and 32 other individuals, primarily former NYS staff.
In 2023, the ODPP filed two motions to dismiss the charges against PS Omollo.

Presenting the application to a Milimani anti-corruption court, the DPP argued that no witnesses had directly or indirectly implicated Omollo.
Moreover, the DPP noted that the alleged financial losses occurred before Omollo assumed office on December 18, 2015.
In July 2023, a month after the case was dismissed, the anti-corruption court officially marked it as withdrawn.
At that time, only Omollo was released from the case, with proceedings continuing against her co-accused.
The ODPP has not clarified whether new charges have been brought against PS Omollo or if her co-accused will face trial.
The case originates from dubious multibillion-shilling expenditures by NYS during the 2013/2014 financial year.
