Uhuru and Mama Ngina Launch New Church in Honour of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta (PHOTOS)
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta were among the attendees at the concentration of St. John the Baptist Chapel at Kenyatta Road off Thika Superhighway.
According to a communique sent to PoliticalPulseChat on Saturday by Uhuru’s office, the cathedral was built in honor of Kenya’s founding father, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
The chapel’s construction was funded by Mama Ngina Kenyatta, drawing inspiration from the one built in Mzee Jomo’s Ichaweri’s home in 1971.
“He desired to have a church within the community where people could gather together and worship.

“He had just come from detention in Maralal, Samburu County,” Mama Ngina stated that the cathedral was built in commemoration of Jomo’s adoration for God and Kenyan citizens.

The Most Reverend Philip A. Anyolo, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Nairobi, alongside other members of the clergy, concentrated the St. John the Baptist Chapel, the 9th Church in the Arch-angel Mutomo Parish.
“The picturesque building is a site to behold, depicting an antique cathedral, with finesse wood finishings, and stained glass windows illustrating service to God and humanity.
“A virtue Archbishop Anyolo emphasized in his sermon,” Uhuru’s office explained.
The former President was brief in his speech and only appreciated his mother and other stakeholders for honoring his father.
“He especially thanked H.E. Mama Ngina Kenyatta for her determination, confidence, and dedication in ensuring that the chapel was built to its completion. The consecration mass was attended by members of the Kenyatta family, friends, and members of the community,” the communique added.
From the photos, a jovial Uhuru and his wife and former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta engaged with the area residents before the first family left the venue.
