UDA Summons MCA Zipporah Kinya Over Motion to Impeach Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza
Zipporah Kinya, a Member of the County Assembly (MCA) who introduced the third motion to remove Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, has been summoned by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
In a letter shared with the Meru County Assembly and newsrooms, Kinya was instructed to appear at the party’s headquarters on Monday without fail.
UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala directed Zipporah Kinya, who is also the Deputy Majority Leader, to present herself for a preliminary discussion on the matter.
“To discuss this issue further and determine the next steps, you are requested to report to the party headquarters on Monday, 21st July 2024, for a preliminary discussion,” part of the letter read.
Additionally, the UDA party has arranged a meeting with the politician to resolve the impasse. The MCA has been asked to attend a second meeting to clarify the party’s position on the matter.
“Your presence and insights at these meetings will be crucial for our collective strategy and decision-making processes.”

The letter, signed by the UDA Secretary General, also urged Ziporah to withdraw the motion “in the interest of the party’s cohesion and stability.”
According to Malala, this move will demonstrate unity and allow the party to develop strategic foresight to prevent future conflicts that could strain political relationships.
Kinya’s impeachment motion is based on three grounds: alleged gross violation of the Constitution, alleged gross violation of various national and county laws, and alleged abuse of office.
“Public petitions have been presented to the county assembly, including petition No. 5 of 2023 brought by 1,611 members of the public, and statements have been sought by the members of the county assembly on various gross violations and instances of abuse of office by the governor, with recommendations made by the county assembly,” the MCA stated while tabling the motion.
Kinya further noted that only an impeachment motion could save the County Assembly from the political turmoil experienced over the past two years since the general election.
The MCA stated that the governor’s continued stay in office has hindered the efficient delivery of services to the people of Meru County.
