UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala Explains National Flag Display on Car Despite Lack of Government Position
UDA secretary general Cleophas Malala clarified the reason behind displaying the national flag on his car, despite not holding a government position.
During his remarks on Thursday, Malala attributed this to his role as President William Ruto’s advisor for implementing the Kenya Kwanza manifesto within the Cabinet.
He emphasized the interconnectedness of the ruling party and the government, highlighting the indispensability of the former for the existence of the latter.
Furthermore, Malala pointed out that his presence in Cabinet meetings was not self-appointed, suggesting that any objections should be directed to the President.

“The President in his wisdom said he wanted to have his advisor sit in the Cabinet to ensure the issues highlighted in his manifesto. There is no way I can be in government without a party. The party is what formed the government,” Malala said.
“Without the party, there is no government and so the President said I’ll be attending cabinet meetings to advise on how the political agenda and the implementation of the manifesto is ongoingโฆ I did not appoint myself to be sitting in cabinet.”
His official vehicle has been observed multiple times adorned with both the National flag and the UDA flag.
The privilege of displaying the national flag on vehicles is granted to a select few, including the President, his deputy, parliamentary speakers, cabinet secretaries, and heads of foreign missions.
In June 2023, Malala, along with David Ndii, Monica Juma, and Harriette Chiggai, received Cabinet approval to participate in cabinet meetings.
