Trump Invited to Testify in Stormy Daniels Grand Jury Case
Donald Trump has been invited to testify in front of a grand jury by New York prosecutors who have been investigating him for the past five years over alleged hush money payments made to Stormy Daniels, a former porn star.
The Manhattan district attorney’s office has been looking into whether the payments were made to keep Daniels from revealing details of an alleged affair with Trump in the run-up to the 2016 US presidential election.
The invitation to testify before a grand jury indicates that Trump could be facing charges in connection with the case.
A grand jury is a panel of citizens convened by a prosecutor to determine whether there is enough evidence to pursue charges in a case.
It is usually held in secret, and several former aides of Trump have reportedly testified in this case.
Daniels claims that she received $130,000 in exchange for her silence about the alleged affair with Trump. The former president denies having had sexual relations with Daniels.
If prosecutors proceed with charges, it would be the first criminal case ever brought against a former US president.
