Truck Plunge Tragedy: 8 Bodies Recovered from Muswii River
On Saturday, approximately eight bodies were recovered from the Muswii River after a sand-carrying truck fell into the swollen water.
Makueni Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili informed the media that residents have retrieved eight bodies from the river that has flooded.
The deputy governor mentioned that approximately ten individuals were still unaccounted for, while around 14 people had been saved alive.
“We have rescued 14 people and recovered 8 bodies. There are 10 bodies reported missing,” Makueni Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili told reporters at Sultan Hamud Sub-county Hospital on Saturday.
Mulili mentioned that the Kenya Red Cross and the Makueni County Disaster Management Department had collaborated to recover the bodies.
People living near the river were encouraged to notify authorities if they saw any bodies floating on the water’s surface, to help advance rescue efforts.

Recent updates follow the incident where a truck tried to drive through the flooded Kwa Muswii River on the Sultan Hamud road in Makueni but ended up rolling into the river.
Witnesses stated that the truck was carrying construction materials when people climbed onto it as it tried to navigate through the flooded river.
In the viral videos of the event, several individuals could be seen sitting on top of the truck as it made its way through the shallow part of the water.
While trying to cross the river, the truck unintentionally slipped into the deeper part, flipped over, and left the passengers unable to help themselves.
The Red Cross announced that rescue operations are ongoing to recover all the bodies that were carried away by the overflowing river.
The unfortunate event occurred while various regions of the country were still enduring heavy rainfall.
The Ministry of Interior has cautioned Kenyans, including drivers and pedestrians, to avoid crossing flooded areas during the rainy season.
