Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jack Grealish withdraw from England squad due to injury concerns
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jack Grealish have withdrawn from the England squad with injuries.
Gareth Southgateโs side have two fixtures in the international break, starting with a Euro 2024 against Ukraine in Poland on Saturday evening before they face Scotland in Glasgow in a friendly three days later.
The duo joined up with the England squad on Monday, but Alexander-Arnold is nursing a hamstring issue and Grealish has a thigh problem, and they will play no part for the Three Lions in the upcoming games.
โThe pair reported to St. Georgeโs Park on Monday but have since withdrawn from the Three Lions squad following checks on injuries sustained before camp,โ a statement said.
โAll other players are due as planned apart from Kieran Trippier who will arrive on Wednesday owing to a personal commitment.โ
Alexander-Arnold picked up his hamstring injury in Liverpoolโs win over Aston Villa on Sunday, with the defender forced off with 20 minutes remaining at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp was uncertain about the severity of the issue when asked after the match.
โIt would have been cool if Trent hadnโt had felt his hamstring,โ Klopp said. โWe will know more after a scan. Letโs hope itโs not serious.โ
Grealish missed out on the squad completely as Manchester City beat Fulham, with that thigh complaint now ruling him out of international duty too.
