Tragic Rongai Incident: Woman Stabs Husband, Fatally Injures Children, and Attempts Suicide

Police in Rongai, Kajiado County, are investigating an incident in which a woman allegedly murdered her two children and husband before attempting suicide on the Maasai Lodge road.

Christine Karimi, who is in critical condition at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), is allegedly responsible for stabbing her husband, Rodgers Andere, following an argument.

According to neighbors, the couple has been experiencing marital issues.

Thursday morning, after 1 a.m., Karimi stabbed Andere three times in the head and neck after he arrived home after 1 a.m. from work.

Andere escaped death by a hair’s breadth after he fled his home while bleeding and sought assistance from neighbors, who rushed him to a nearby medical facility.

Karimi, who remained behind, allegedly locked the doors before stabbing her two children, Amani Otieno, age six, and Tyrel Agogo, age two. The woman then turned the blade on herself.

Namu Moraa, a witness, said; “Venye nimefika asubuhi tukaenda tukaona vile watoto wamefunikwa na blanket, damu imejaa kwa nyumba tukaona polisi wamejaa huko, mtu wa DCI akakuja akaangalia watoto wakachukuliwa na polisi.

The witness stated that the couple, who has lived in the area for the past three years, had occasional domestic disagreements.

“Venye majirani wanasema wamekuwa wakisumbuana mambo tu ya nyumbani … Alikuwa anaonekana ni mtu mpole kwa maana anakuanga customer wangu…mimi huuza nguo, alikuwa ananipromote sasa sijui ni shetani gani aliingilia katikati,” stated Moraa.

Police commander for Kajiado North, Hussein Gura, stated that officers have recovered the murder weapon and launched an investigation.

“Tunahisi wananchi wanapokuwa na jambo kama hili la ugomvi wa kifamilia, wapate usaidizi wa counsellors au watu wa kanisa,” said Gura.

Both Andere and Karimi are currently receiving treatment at KNH. Their deceased children’s bodies are located at the City Mortuary.
