Tragic Road Accident Claims UDA MCA Hamisi Iddi Deye’s Life

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party sent a message of condolence to the family of Chewani MCA Hamisi Iddi Deye, who died in a tragic accident, on Saturday, June 17.

UDA announced in a statement that the Tana River County Assembly-affiliated MCA died in a road accident along Malindi-Garsen Road.

“During this time of sorrow, we pray for the departed’s soul, his family, and the people of Chewani ward,” the UDA said.

The legislator was the minority leader in the Tana-River County Assembly until his untimely demise.

Cleophas Malala, secretary general of the UDA, confirmed his death and remarked that the people of Chewani had lost a devoted leader.

“This morning, we received the sad news of the untimely passing of Hamisi Iddi Deye (Ndoyeni), a member of the County Assembly from the Chewani Ward, Galole Constituency, Tana River County.

“His death, the result of a gruesome road accident along the Garsen Road, robs his family, friends, relatives, and the people of Tana River of a leader, father, husband, and friend who gave them hope for a better future,” Malala’s statement read in part.

At the time of publication, the cause of the tragic crash could not be determined.

NTSA Accident Data

Pedestrian fatalities decreased from 359 in 2022 to 330 in 2023. According to data from the National Transport and Safety Administration (NTSA). While pillion passenger fatalities decreased from 109 in 2022 to 93 in 2023.

The number of driver fatalities rose from 95 in 2022 to 98 in 2023. Whereas the number of passenger fatalities rose from 154 in 2022 to 173 in 2023.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen instituted a nationwide crackdown in response to the increase in traffic accidents.

In the operation, NTSA set up a clinic where drivers were required to present their licenses and inspection certificates.

During the operation, which began in Nairobi on Wednesday, June 14, speed limiters were also lined up for diagnosis.
