Ten people have been confirmed dead in a Monday morning accident on the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.
According to reports, the accident happened at 4 a.m. and involved an eleven-seater shuttle and a truck in the Ngata area at the Salgaa stretch.
Confirming the incident, Nakuru County Commander Samuel Ndanyi indicated that the accident happened after the matatu collided with the lorry.

Casualties were rushed to Nakuru Level 5 hospital where they are receiving treatment.
The Salgaa stretch in the Ngata area has been a blackspot with many accidents reported in the area.

Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen had earlier announced that there were measures to upgrade the stretch to reduce the number of accidents.
The accidents mostly involve lorries and public service vehicles.
In June, following Murkomen’s directive, Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) started the construction of a concrete barrier that is four kilometers long.
The barrier stretches from Ngata Gate to Ngata Road over the rail bridge.
There is a long-term plan to upgrade the whole road into a dual carriage.
According to The National Transport And Safety Authority (NTSA), 2,124 people died in road accidents from January to June 25, 2023.
