Tragedy Strikes: Fatal Crash Claims 5 Lives, Injures 9 After Subukia Shrine Prayer Gathering
Five individuals lost their lives, and nine others sustained injuries following a traffic incident in the Mahiga Meeru area along the Nyahururu-Nyeri road on Saturday evening.
The individuals affected were a driver and a women hailing from St. Peters Gaitega, affiliated with the Cathedral Parish of the Catholic Diocese of Murang’a.
They were on their way back home after participating in a National prayer gathering at Subukia’s Marian Shrine on Friday evening, along with thousands of members from the Catholic Women Association (CWA).

Three individuals who survived were quickly transported to Nyahururu County and Referral Hospital for medical treatment. Among them, two were released after treatment, while one remained hospitalized with head injuries.
Unfortunately, the bodies of the five individuals who lost their lives in the incident were transported to the Nyahururu County Hospital Mortuary.
Others who were rescued were taken to different hospitals in Nyeri County.
Lucy Wanjiku and Jecinta Njeri are among the survivors. They narrate that the driver of the 14-passenger vehicle they were in attempted unsuccessfully to avoid colliding with a trailer approaching from the opposite direction.
They mentioned that the trailer seemed to have experienced brake failure and lost control, ultimately colliding with their vehicle.
Faith Gitau, the Women’s Representative for Nyandarua County, extended her sincere emotions to the survivors and urged strength for the affected families, as she was among those offering assistance to the survivors.
