Tragedy Strikes as Boat Capsizes During School Outing in Uasin Gishu County
What was meant to be a fun day out for five KCPE candidates from Arap Moi Primary School in Tarakwa, Uasin Gishu county turned tragic after the boat they were sailing in capsized.
According to a police report, the five were part of a group of Standard Six and Standard Eight pupils accompanied by teachers to a hotel for recreational activities.
The outing was intended to be a joyful break from their academic responsibilities, a chance for the students to unwind and enjoy a memorable day.

The report states that the tragic incident occurred on a Saturday evening, around 5 p.m. when some of the pupils boarded a boat on a manmade dam within the hotel’s premises. The exact cause of the capsizing remains under investigation, but it has shaken the community and school alike.
Heartbreakingly, all five Standard Eight pupils lost their lives in the accident. Their families, friends, and teachers are now left grappling with an unimaginable loss, mourning the bright futures that were so abruptly cut short.
Meanwhile, one Standard Six pupil miraculously survived, although not unscathed. This survivor was rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, where medical professionals are working diligently to stabilize their condition, as they grapple with acute low levels of oxygen.
The tragic incident serves as a devastating reminder of the importance of safety measures during school outings and recreational activities, prompting authorities and institutions to reevaluate and reinforce safety protocols to prevent such heart-wrenching events from recurring in the future.
