Top ODM Leader Arrested in Eldoret by Detectives

Uasin Gishu โ€“ The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has raised concerns about the detention of its national vice chairman by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Eldoret. According to the party, the arrest occurred under unclear circumstances, with no reasons provided by the authorities.

The ODM party took to Twitter to inform the public about the situation, revealing that John Ariko, who serves as the Member of Parliament for Turkana South constituency, was apprehended by DCI officers.

The party expressed dismay at the lack of transparency surrounding the incident, stating that no explanation or justification was given for the arrest.

In its statement, the ODM party demanded accountability from the security agencies involved. They specifically called upon the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, to address the matter and provide clarity on the reasons behind the arrest of one of their key leaders.

@DCI_Kenya officers in Eldoret have this evening arrested Turkana South MP Mr. John Ariko, our National Vice Chairman without any explanation. He is locked up at the Central Police Station in Eldoret town. We demand an explanation from the IG of police on this incident.

The party emphasized that such actions undermine public trust and the principles of justice if conducted without due process and transparency.

The tweet from the ODM party read: โ€œDCI officers in Eldoret have this evening arrested Turkana South MP John Ariko, our National Vice Chairman, without any explanation. He is currently being held at the Central Police Station in Eldoret town. We demand an explanation from the Inspector General of the Police on this matter.โ€

This development has sparked concerns not only within the ODM party but also among its supporters and other political observers. The arrest of a sitting Member of Parliament, especially without a clear explanation, raises questions about the operations of law enforcement agencies and their approach to handling such cases.

The ODM party has insisted that the issue be addressed promptly, urging the authorities to uphold fairness and ensure accountability in their actions.

As of now, it remains unclear what prompted the arrest of John Ariko, and the party continues to demand answers from the police.

The incident has brought to light broader concerns about the need for transparency and proper communication when handling sensitive matters involving public officials.
