Timba XO Drama: Residents Ask Oscar Sudi for Forgiveness After Youth Slapped With Ksh300,000 Bond
The families of individuals accused of setting fire to a nightclub owned by Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi on Wednesday have implored the legislator to help secure the release of their loved ones.
These accused, including some high school students, have been held in remand for over two months.
The parents have requested Sudi’s forgiveness and urged for the release of the detainees, claiming that the MP had previously made a promise.
Residents also expressed their frustration to the media, noting that some of those arrested, including orphans, are unable to afford the Ksh300,000 bail for each person.
Brian Luta, an Eldoret resident, appealed to Oscar Sudi for compassion, stating, โWe have been visiting every day after work but continue to face obstacles.โ
Christopher Barno, another local, expressed his frustration, saying, โWe have now appeared in court for the fourth time without success. We are consistently told to return later.โ
Mercy Chebet, whose brother is among the detainees, criticized the MP for publicly announcing forgiveness while many of the youth remain incarcerated. She pleaded, โSudi said he forgave them; if that is true, we ask him to act on it and forgive us if we have wronged him.โ

In June, a group of young people was filmed vandalizing the Timba XO club as part of nationwide protests. Following the event, MP Sudi declared publicly that he had forgiven all the suspects.
Sudi commented, โLosing the Ksh250 million invested in Timba XO and Timba Club is preferable to causing harm to people.โ
He added, โAlthough we lost Ksh48 million in assets, including the hotel, and everything was stolen, we request those who took the equipment to return it without fear of repercussions. Some items, like the speakers, are unusable elsewhere due to programming.โ
Following the incident, Sudi disclosed that over 200 club employees lost their jobs, which had been their primary source of income.
The suspects are currently held at Eldoret Maximum Prison after being convicted by Principal Magistrate Kesse Choronoh of theft, vandalism, and property destruction amounting to Ksh80 million during the protests.
