The Price of Greed? Reactions as Former Governor Ferdinand Waititu Is Spotted in Prison Uniform
Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has fallen from grace after being sentenced to 12 years in prison. He is currently incarcerated at Nairobi’s Industrial Area Prison after being found guilty of conflict of interest in a case involving KSh 588 million.
Leaked Photo of Waititu in Prison
A photo of Waititu in prison has surfaced online. In the image, he is seen wearing a black-and-white striped prison uniform while sitting on a chair. A wooden table with books is in front of him, some with visible titles. Another prisoner, also in a striped uniform, stands in front of the table, partially blocking the view.
In the background, a shelf filled with books and bags can be seen. A green sack leans against the wall, and the floor appears bare. Waititu seems deep in thought, leading many Kenyans to wonder what was on his mind.
Waititu’s Health and Political Influence
Earlier this month, political activist Nuru Okanga visited Waititu in prison. He reported that the politicianโs health had improved after being hospitalized for high blood pressure. Okanga also alleged that powerful political groups were influencing Waititu’s court cases for their own agendas.
He expressed concern that Waititu is the only politician serving a prison sentence for corruption while others accused of similar crimes remain free.

Why Was Waititu Jailed?

Kenyans React to Waitituโs Imprisonment
Many Kenyans have shared their opinions on Waitituโs situation. Here are some of their comments:
- Amoh Jeruiyot: “I don’t support corruption, but why is the law only applied to those who criticize the government?”
- Bravo Kilo Kilo: “Kenya must have one of the most unfair justice systems in the world.”
- Dan Ben Genga: “I donโt support corruption, but I will never celebrate someone going to jail. Prison is a tough place, and families suffer too. My prayers are with Baba Yao.”
- Ipkorir Masit Snr: “Corrupt leaders belong in jail. We should send all corrupt politicians to prison, regardless of their political affiliations.”
- Richard Muteti: “The penal code should be revised. After a certain age, people should serve house arrest instead of prison. Even the judge who sentenced Waititu has likely benefited from corruption.”
Waitituโs case continues to spark debate in Kenya, with many questioning the fairness of the justice system. While some believe his sentencing is justified, others argue that all corrupt politicians should face the same consequences.
