Ten Killed After Two Malaysian Navy Helicopters Collide In Mid-Air
Ten people have tragically lost their lives in a mid-air collision between two navy helicopters during a military rehearsal for a Royal Malaysian Navy parade.
The incident took place at 09:30 local time (02:30 BST) in the Malaysian town of Lumut, which is known for its navy base.
The collision occurred when one of the helicopters clipped the rotor of the other, causing both aircraft to crash into the ground.
The event was captured on video and shared by local media.
The Royal Malaysian Navy confirmed that there were no survivors from the accident.
All ten victims were confirmed dead on site, and their remains were transported to the Lumut Military Hospital for identification.
The Navy announced its plans to establish a committee to investigate the cause of the incident, aiming to uncover the factors that led to the crash.
One of the helicopters involved in the collision was a HOM M503-3 model, which had seven people on board.
It is believed to have crashed onto a running track.

Responders quickly arrived at the scene to manage the aftermath of the tragic event.
This unfortunate accident is not the first involving helicopters in Malaysia this year.
In March, a Malaysian Coast Guard helicopter crashed into the sea off Malaysia’s Angsa Island during a training flight.
Fortunately, the pilot, co-pilot, and two passengers in that incident were rescued by fishermen.
The recent tragedy in Lumut highlights the inherent risks involved in military training and aerial maneuvers.
As the Royal Malaysian Navy investigates the cause of the accident, there will likely be discussions about potential changes to safety protocols and measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The loss of life serves as a somber reminder of the sacrifices made by those who serve in the military and the dangers they face in the line of duty.
