Kapsaret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi has dismissed recent remarks by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who said Kenya Kwanza leaders should avoid visiting Mt. Kenya.

Speaking on Friday, March 28, Sudi said the government does not need permission to visit any part of the country. He added that Mt. Kenya residents deserve government projects because they played a big role in electing the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“As Kenya Kwanza, we will tour and bring development to every part of this country,” Sudi said. “Wamunyoro (Gachagua) said we should not visit Mt. Kenya, but we will be there next week. The people of Mt. Kenya helped this government to win power, and they deserve development.”

The MP made it clear that the purpose of their visit to Mt. Kenya is development, not politics.

“We are going to Mt. Kenya to work, not to campaign. We do not need permission to bring services to the people who voted for us,” Sudi added.

Gachagua’s Stand on Political Tourism

In May 2024, when he was still Deputy President, Gachagua had asked leaders to stop moving from one county to another. He said elected leaders should stay in their constituencies and focus on serving their people. He called these unnecessary movements “political tourism.”

“I urge MPs to stay in their constituencies and serve their people. Moving around the country is causing problems for the government,” Gachagua said while speaking in Uasin Gishu County.

President Ruto’s Different Opinion

President William Ruto later disagreed with Gachagua’s position. He encouraged MPs to travel across the country so they can understand their roles better. According to the President, visiting other regions helps MPs to learn, provide oversight, and improve service delivery.

“I am happy that many MPs are traveling across the country. It helps them know their full role as lawmakers,” Ruto said during a church service in Bungoma County.

“Announcements happen everywhere, including in the Catholic Church. I’m asking you to stop politicking. Your job is to guide us spiritually, not engage in tribal-driven attacks. Where were you during Kibaki and Uhuru’s time? Stop the daily accusations and focus on your divine duty,” Sudi posted on X.

Wetangula Backs Government’s Communication Strategy

Sudi’s remarks followed a similar response from National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, who urged Muheria and other religious leaders to stick to spiritual matters.

“If you are a bishop, focus on saving souls. Sometimes, when you provoke people, they may respond in a way that is not appropriate,” Wetangula stated.

He defended the government’s responsibility to keep citizens informed, citing Kenya’s 2010 Constitution, which mandates transparency and public participation.

“The Constitution puts the people at the center. Kenyans must be informed about government activities. So yes, the government must continue communicating its projects,” Wetangula added.

According to Muturi, during a meeting with the President, he openly suggested that NIS agents were behind his son’s disappearance. After initial hesitation, Ruto confronted Noordin Haji, who confirmed the allegations and promised Leslie’s release within an hour.

Pastor James Ng’ang’a, the founder of Neno Evangelism, recently spoke out against Kipseret MP Oscar Sudi’s comments about handling critics of President William Ruto.

Speaking in Elgeyo Marakwet on January 5, Sudi claimed that if he were appointed as the Interior Cabinet Secretary, criticism of the government would be quickly subdued.

Sudi suggested that, under his leadership, issues like the controversial portrayal of the president through silhouettes would be dealt with immediately.

He confidently declared that in just three days, he could put an end to what he referred to as “foolishness” online. According to Sudi, a country should not be governed by such actions but with respect for the president and adherence to the constitution.

Pastor Ng’ang’a, however, strongly disagreed with Sudi’s remarks. He criticized the MP for proposing what he described as unconstitutional methods to deal with young critics.

Ng’ang’a emphasized that legal channels should be followed and that anyone accused of wrongdoing, even serious crimes, should face the courts rather than be dealt with violently.

Addressing Sudi directly, the pastor said, “You take them to court. Even murderers are apprehended, and it’s the judge who decides their fate, not you. From your comments, you seem to know who is behind the abduction of these young people. Don’t bring such nonsense.”

Sudi mocked the popular online slogan “Ruto must go,” describing it as ineffective and pointless. He argued that such protests, no matter how loud or widespread, will not change the reality that Ruto remains firmly in office. In his speech, Sudi humorously suggested that the critics could jump up and down or try any antics they wished, but they would achieve nothing.

The Engineering Board of Kenya (EBK) has instructed Northwestern Christian University-Kenya to revoke Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi’s Honorary Doctorate Degree.

The directive follows criticism from the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) regarding the MP’s use of the title “Engineer” linked to the honorary degree.

Sudi received the honorary degree in Leadership, Administration, and Management during the university’s 17th graduation ceremony held at Eldoret National Polytechnic.

In a press release, EBK urged the university to recall the certificate, correct the misuse of the “Eng.” title, and issue an amended version.

The board revealed it acted after receiving numerous complaints from the public about the improper use of the professional engineering title on the honorary degree.

EBK clarified that including “Eng.” without authorization violates Sections 26(3) and 47(2) of the Engineers Act, 2011. The Act reserves this title exclusively for registered Professional and Consulting Engineers and outlines penalties for unauthorized use.

“The title ‘Eng.’ is strictly for registered engineers as per Sections 26(1) and (2) of the Engineers Act, 2011,” EBK stated. “Misusing this title compromises the engineering profession’s credibility and is punishable under Kenyan law.”

Civic educator and presidential hopeful Morara Kebaso is locked in a heated feud with Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, with the two trading serious accusations.

During a church service at AIC Pioneer in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, on Sunday, Sudi, a close ally of President William Ruto, dismissed online critics of the troubled healthcare initiative, labeling them as “fake” individuals who lack understanding of the issues at hand.

“A lot of people are speaking without full knowledge of what the ordinary Kenyan is going through. We who hold medical bill fundraisers are the ones who know what we’re talking about. You have elected us to be your leaders; those speaking on social media, let us fail if we will, but follow our policies first. You will deal with us if we fail,” the MP told churchgoers.

“Don’t listen to the crookery on social media; those people online are fake know-it-alls… some were inciting others doing the Gen-Z protests yet they have never built a country, they don’t know the price of cement.”

Sudi encouraged the public to register for SHA, claiming that the criticism stems from affluent individuals who can afford their healthcare, not the vulnerable Kenyans the scheme is designed to assist.

Recently, Hassan Joho, a former opposition leader who was appointed Mining Cabinet Secretary by Ruto, condemned social media users for what he referred to as insults directed at the presidency.

“I want to tell the young people, nchi haiwezi pelekwa namna hiyo. Wewe unakaa kwa mtandao, unakosa uzalendo; you become so unpatriotic. Wengine wanasema Raila Odinga aanguke African Union,” Joho ssaid on Tuesday.

“How unpatriotic can you be as Kenyans that even one of your own ako na nafasi ya kuongoza pahali pazuri, kwa sababu ya kisiasa ya kizembezembe mnaanza kusema he must fall? We will come for you, my friend.”

The new public healthcare initiative, recently renamed ‘Taifa Care’ by Ruto, has faced strong criticism for its limited benefits and reports of Kenyans struggling to access healthcare under the new system since its launch in early October.

A report by Mzalendo Trust highlights 19 MPs who have consistently refrained from speaking during parliamentary sessions.

Mzalendo, a parliamentary watchdog in Kenya, notes that these silent MPs fail to engage on critical public issues debated in the House, such as taxation policies, housing regulations, health matters, and financial laws.

Their lack of participation in debates addressing national and constituency-specific concerns underscores a failure to fulfill their key role as representatives of the people.

Among the least vocal MPs is George Aladwa of Makadara, elected under the ODM party ticket.

Interestingly, some of these silent lawmakers are closely linked to influential political figures.

Notably, they participated in the impeachment votes against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi.

In contrast, MPs like Wilberforce Oundo Ojiambo (Funyula), Beatrice Elachi (Dagoretti North), James Nyikal (Seme), Makali Mulu (Kitui Central), and Adan Wehliye (Eldas) emerged as the most vocal members of the National Assembly.
