Suspect Swallows Sachets as DCI Seizes Ksh1.8M Cocaine Hidden in Shoes in Thika
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested a suspected drug trafficker in the Thika region of Kiambu County on Friday, April 26.
DCI arrested the suspect after searching a bus from Moyale to Nairobi and finding multiple sachets believed to contain cocaine hidden beneath the inner soles of the suspect’s shoe.
Detectives from the anti-narcotics division launched the operation after receiving a tip from an anonymous informant who alerted them to the event.
“Acting on intelligence information, anti-narcotics detectives augmented by the Operations Support Unit intercepted the bus at the Blue Post section of Thika, conducting a search that saw a 24-year-old arrested,” detectives noted.
After his arrest, the suspect was transported to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for additional screening.
During the screening process, officers found that, in addition to the 417g valued at Ksh1.8 million, the suspect had ingested a greater quantity of drugs than he initially planned to discharge upon arrival.

“The suspect is currently in the custody of JKIA-ANU officers pending egestion of the swallowed sachets and further legal procedures,” read part of a statement by detectives.
The most recent arrest by the police occurs as detectives continue to strengthen their efforts to combat drug traffickers and dealers nationwide.
On April 17, detectives from the Mombasa anti-narcotics unit apprehended a drug trafficker in the Kiembeni area of Kisauni.
While making the arrest, the DCI officers were able to confiscate multiple sachets of suspected heroin and cannabis sativa from his home and personal car.
As per a statement from the DCI, the suspect was taken into custody during an early morning operation prompted by information from a concerned citizen.
“Also seized from the suspect is his vehicle which is believed to be proceeds of crime, cash Sh26,250 and USD 200, a weighing machine, packaging envelopes, and three mobile phones,” read a statement by DCI.
