Suspect Behind Sh1.4M Robbery in Mombasa Flushed Out in Lang’ata Hideout

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) brought a suspected notorious carjacker before the Mombasa Law Courts on Tuesday.

The man, who is middle-aged, was apprehended by DCI officials in Changamwe on charges of breaking into a vehicle and stealing Ksh1.4 million. According to a statement from the DCI, the suspect allegedly broke into a Nissan X-Trail parked outside a Mombasa supermarket on June 26.

The suspect is said to have accessed the car through the driverโ€™s side door and stolen the cash. Following the incident, a swift manhunt was launched by the detectives.

In a coordinated effort, DCI officers from Lang’ata located and arrested the suspect at his Nairobi hideout.

He was then transferred to Changamwe officials who promptly brought him before the Milimani Law Courts in Mombasa for arraignment.

In light of this incident, Kenyans are advised to be vigilant against carjacking, which is reportedly increasing. The DCI warns that vehicle prowling, or theft from cars occurs when thieves exploit vulnerabilities.

To safeguard vehicles from carjackers, the public is encouraged to install anti-theft devices and always park in safe, well-lit, and visible areas.

The DCI also advises, “Before parking, remove or conceal any valuables that may attract thieves. Ensure windows and doors are closed, lock your car, and take your keys with you.”

The DCI reassured the public of its commitment to tackling car break-ins and theft, emphasizing that offenders will face severe legal consequences.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is committed to addressing car break-ins and theft with full legal action against the perpetrators,” the detectives affirmed.
