Surprising Turn of Events: Maina Njenga Surrenders Shortly After DCI Manhunt Begins

Ex-Mungiki leader Maina Njenga surrendered to the authorities at the Nakuru Law Courts on Wednesday, May 24.

A few hours after the Directorate of Criminal launched a manhunt for Njenga, Ndegwa Njiru escorted him to the courthouse.

Police claim they seized 90 rolls of marijuana and two firearms from his residence.

Ndegwa Njiru was unavailable for comment on whether Njenga sought an anticipatory bail or why he presented himself at the court as opposed to a police station.
In photographs obtained by GossipA2Z, Njenga is seen in the dock speaking with his attorney Ndegwa Njiru.

Notably, on May 12, the police conducted dawn raids on at least three of his residences.

Njenga owns residences in the counties of Nairobi, Nakuru, and Laikipia. He was not present in any of the residences.

One day before the raid, Njenga signed the condolence book at the residence of the deceased freedom fighter Mukami Kimathi.

“This evening, I expressed my condolences to the family and friends of the late Mukami Kimathi at her residence in Njambini. I am impressed with the county and national government’s progress in preparing for the burial.

“I have also suggested and requested that the President plant a memorial Mugumo tree at the home of Mukami Kimathi as a mark of respect and farewell for a Mau Mau veteran,” he wrote in a statement.

On Saturday, May 13, Maina Njenga made his final public appearance at the state funeral of the late Mukami Kimathi.
He entered the event with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and former Governor of Murang’a, Mwangi wa Iria.

John Nderitu of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) defeated Kenya African National Union (KANU) candidate Njenga for the Laikipia County Senatorial seat in 2022.
