This accident comes at a time when Super Metro Sacco is already facing public criticism and increased government scrutiny over its operations. Just days earlier, on March 20, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) suspended Super Metroโs operating license. NTSA raised safety concerns, citing that many of the Saccoโs vehicles had expired inspection certificates and licenses. They also found that some of the drivers were not properly qualified.

In the NTSA notice, police were instructed to stop any Super Metro vehicles found operating during the suspension. Passengers were also warned not to board Super Metro buses until the company complied with transport regulations.
The companyโs troubles worsened following a tragic incident where a Super Metro conductor allegedly threw a passenger out of a moving bus, leading to the passengerโs death. This incident sparked public outrage and forced NTSA to take action.
In response, Super Metro presented over 200 buses to NTSA offices for inspection as part of efforts to fix the safety issues raised.
The latest road accident is likely to increase pressure on Super Metro as Kenyans continue to question the company’s safety record.
