Super Metro Bus Overturns on Thika Road After Accident With Personal Car

A Super Metro bus was involved in a road accident on Saturday, March 29, along Thika Road, causing the bus to overturn. The accident happened near Jomoko, on the road leading to Thika town, after a collision with a personal vehicle.

According to images shared by Gossipa2z.com and reports from passengers, the car involved in the accident landed in a ditch, while the bus blocked part of the service lane. Fortunately, early reports show no deaths, although authorities are yet to confirm if there were any injuries.

After the crash, members of the public quickly gathered at the scene to help rescue passengers trapped inside the overturned bus.

This accident comes at a time when Super Metro Sacco is already facing public criticism and increased government scrutiny over its operations. Just days earlier, on March 20, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) suspended Super Metroโ€™s operating license. NTSA raised safety concerns, citing that many of the Saccoโ€™s vehicles had expired inspection certificates and licenses. They also found that some of the drivers were not properly qualified.

In the NTSA notice, police were instructed to stop any Super Metro vehicles found operating during the suspension. Passengers were also warned not to board Super Metro buses until the company complied with transport regulations.

The companyโ€™s troubles worsened following a tragic incident where a Super Metro conductor allegedly threw a passenger out of a moving bus, leading to the passengerโ€™s death. This incident sparked public outrage and forced NTSA to take action.

In response, Super Metro presented over 200 buses to NTSA offices for inspection as part of efforts to fix the safety issues raised.

The latest road accident is likely to increase pressure on Super Metro as Kenyans continue to question the company’s safety record.
