Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has declared that the Muslim vote will be a key factor in determining the outcome of Kenya’s 2027 General Election.
Muslim Vote as a Game-Changer
Speaking at an Iftar dinner in Upper Hill on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, Junet stated that the Muslim community now has a significant voting power in the country.
“As Muslims, we are ready. We are now many in this nation. The upcoming election will be decided by the Muslim vote because it is now a major voting bloc in this country,” Junet said.
He further emphasized that in the future, members of the Muslim community will vie for the presidency or Deputy President position.
“The Muslim vote is large and will not be ignored. We will lay our demands on the table, and people must recognize our numbers. Some believe they are the majority, but they will be surprised when the votes are counted,” he added.
Calls for Raila Odinga to Convert to Islam
Junet also urged former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to convert to Islam, acknowledging his longstanding support for the Muslim community.
“You have shown genuine love for Muslims for a long time. We pray that God blesses you to become a Muslim so that next Ramadhan, you can fast with us,” he remarked.
Raila Impresses with Knowledge of Islam
During the event, Raila impressed Muslim leaders by revealing that he has read the Quran extensively. He further demonstrated his knowledge of Islam by listing the Five Pillars of Islam:
- Shahadah – Declaring that Allah is the only God and Muhammad is his prophet.
- Salah – Praying five times daily while facing Mecca.
- Zakat – Giving alms to the poor.
- Saum – Fasting during Ramadhan.
- Hajj – A pilgrimage to Mecca for those who can afford it.
Raila’s Historical Ties with the Muslim Community
Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho also praised Raila for his strong bond with the Muslim community, highlighting his decades-long advocacy for their rights.
“There is a deep historical relationship between Raila Odinga and the Muslim community that not everyone understands,” Joho stated.
